BSc Degree Midwifery

BSc Degree Midwifery

The BSc Midwifery is a full-time four year programme, offered by the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, in partnership with the Health Service Executive West (Limerick, Clare and Tipperary North). Clinical Placements will take place in the Mid West and South East Regions.  On successful completion of the programme students will be able to present for registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and practise as a registered midwife (R.M.). The Department of nursing and Midwifery has received approval from an Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland for the programme.

The philosophy of midwifery education is based on a wellness model of women centred holistic care. The programme aims to prepare a competent, caring, research-minded, analytical and reflective midwife practitioner who applies a systematic, evidence based approach to responding creatively and sensitively to the needs of pregnant women and their families.  This knowledge will be required through the study of midwifery, biological sciences, social sciences, and related disciplines. Students will be university based and will have early and balanced exposure to midwifery practice throughout the programme.
