Marie Ryan and Sinead Wallace, representing their midwifery group , who qualified this year;  were great ambassadors’ for the University Maternity hospital, Limerick at the annual conference of the Association of Lactation Consultants’ of Ireland, held in Dublin on Sept. 30/October 1st. It was a great start to National Breastfeeding week as the girls were awarded the best poster in the Breast feeding promotion category. This was the project the BSc Midwifery group 2012, presented for National Breastfeeding week, in 2015. It was a “poster” with a difference as they had a clothes line of baby vests, representing the growing baby, each with a message about breastfeeding. The group kindly donated their project to the hospital where it is on permanent display, in the clinic area.

It attracts a lot of attention in the clinic where people stop and read it every day.

At the conference numerous people from various hospital as well as public health nurses asked if they could copy the idea, and display in their areas. This was a great compliment and an endorsement of the girls’  work, and of their tutors and management who supported the project.
