Writing your FYP - Academic Writing Workshop

The Writing Centre at UL offers a free and friendly place for all students (undergraduate and postgraduate) to come and address any aspect of their writing. This resource is dedicated to helping students develop strategies to become more confident, critical and autonomous writers. The Writing Centre practices a non-invasive, inductive approach to writing development, utilising peer-tutors and experts that work with both students and staff respectively to identify their writing practices in order to assess and improve strategic effectiveness. The Writing Centre is also available to staff who are interested in developing their students' writing.
Please consider bringing the following resources to the attention of your students.
The Writing Centre offers the following resources for undergraduate students:
- one-on-one peer-tutoring in academic writing;

discipline-specific seminars and workshops on essay, report and FYP writing;
- "Writing your FYP", Wednesday, February 9th, 14:00 to 16:00, D1054b
- Academic Writing Workshops, commencing in Week 5
- online resources for writers;
- consultation with staff on integrating writing as a learning tool into their curricula.
The Writing Centre offers the following activities for postgraduate students:
- an opportunity to mentor undergraduate writers at the writing centre
- one-on-one tutoring in academic writing;
- online resources for writers;
- seminars and workshops for the development of academic and professional writing;
- writers' groups.
The Regional Writing Centre, UL, stands ready to work collaboratively with staff, not only to improve student writing, but to progress the relationship students have with writing. The Writing Centre wishes to share its expertise with disciplinary experts to further student learning and performance.
