UL Engineers recreate the 13th century siege of King John’s Castle
Thursday, 10th March 2011University of Limerick, Civil Engineering students brought learning to life with a re-enactment of the siege of 13th century King John's Castle, using their own specially designed and constructed siege platforms.
Designed and constructed by students of the civil engineering programme as part of their Problem Based Learning Steel and Timber Design module the medieval siege platforms were designed and constructed on the UL campus. The siege machinery was then transported to the castle for the battle. Students raced against the clock to assemble their siege platforms with encouragement from local school kids, who enthusiastically defended King John's battlements.
