Stokes Institute Researcher Receives International Engineering Award

UL-based Senior Research Fellow, Dr Edmond Walsh of Stokes Institute was recently announced as the recipient of an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Young Investigator Award. Dr Walsh is to receive the Bergles-Rohsenow Award for his contributions to the field of heat transfer.

Dr Walsh has made significant contributions to the field through outstanding research on electronics cooling, micro-fluidics for medical diagnostics, boundary layer transition and energy sustainability through experiments, equipment development and analyses.

A graduate of the University of Limerick, Dr Walsh has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Science. After gaining work experience in ABB compressor design he returned to the University of Limerick where he is currently a Senior Research Fellow leading the aerodynamic team within the Stokes Research Institute. Dr Walsh has generated an impressive body of research and industry licences with 45 international journal contributions and 100 refereed papers including one chapter contribution to date. His research has led to a number of license agreements signed with global companies, AMD, AVC and Nokia Siemens Networks.
