RTÉ Director General, Noel Curran recently addressed UL journalism students as part UL’s ‘Issues in Irish Journalism’ seminar series. Mr Curran’s address ‘public service journalism in the digital era’ discussed a number of important issues relating to journalism and broadcasting, as part of a public interview with UL journalism lecturer Tom Felle.

In his welcome, Tom Felle said; “RTE journalists have been at the forefront of breaking some of the biggest stories in the history of the State – RTE’s journalism has quite literally shaped the Irish political landscape during the last half century. This talk could not come at a more important time for journalism, not just in Ireland but internationally.”

Mr Curran is the latest speaker in the ‘Issues in Irish Journalism’ seminar series, now in its fifth year. Previous guest speakers have included Robert Fisk, Education Minister Ruairi Quinn, former The Irish Times editor and Adjunct Professor of Journalism at UL Geraldine Kennedy and former Taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald.
