Journalists Alan Owens and Andrew Carey have been appointed as Communications Officers at University of Limerick.

Alan Owens, formerly of the Limerick Leader newspaper, has been appointed to the position of Communications Officer.

Andrew Carey, formerly of the Limerick Post, has been appointed to the position of Corporate Communications Officer.

Both bring a wealth of knowledge and industry experience to their respective roles.

Alan is a graduate of UL at BA and MA level. An award-winning journalist and editor with the Limerick Leader newspaper, he has significant experience at local, regional and national level and was a regular contributor to radio throughout his career. He most recently held the position of Assistant Editor at the Limerick Leader.

Alan’s role as Communications Officer is largely an external one, dealing with press queries, handling media relations and developing PR campaigns.

Andrew holds an MA in Marketing and Management Strategy from Limerick Institute of Technology and was a senior reporter for 15 years with the Limerick Post, while also contributing to regional and national media.

Andrew’s role focuses on UL’s corporate communications, helping to deliver an overarching university message to internal and external audiences and stakeholders.
