The Annual Mature Student Open Evening recently took place at the University of Limerick. The event provides a unique opportunity for mature students considering returning to education or looking to up-skill.  Faculty and staff were hand to answer questions and give advice on the broad range of innovative undergraduate programmes together with information on admissions and careers.

Joachim Barnett, Deputy Admissions Officer said; ”Mature candidates should not be discouraged from considering third level studies in circumstances where they may not have completed secondary school examinations or other qualifications.  Career, life experiences and motivation are also criteria taken into consideration in the interview process. Also, for those looking to return to education, adapting to the learning environment and re-building learning skills is an essential support. UL offers a Mature Student Access Course, starting in September 2012 which will enable mature students to build up their skills before committing themselves to a full-time undergraduate programme.”

The programmes on offer are full-time undergraduate studies which are of four years duration. In addition, there are part-time programmes on offer through the Department of Lifelong Learning and Outreach. The University has an active population of mature students adding a unique dimension to the class dynamic through their life and career experiences.

Applications from mature students are made directly to the University by the 2nd April 2012. Applications forms will be available on the evening but can also be requested by contacting the Admissions Office, Phone: 061 202015, E-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) www.admissions.ul.ie.
