Building an Innovation Ecosystem
Friday, 14th September 2012Lynne Algar, PhD Researcher in Sports and Exercise Sciences, Triathlete, Physical Therapist and Coach. Lynne is part of our research team which is focused on the critical factors in sports performance contributing to the success of elite athletes.
Explaining the significance of her research, Lynne said; “Ireland has some world class sports facilities and raw athletic talent. Factors such as coach education, clear strategic development pathways and international competition have been identified as vital for progress. Our research goes further to investigate how our sport systems are providing for their key stakeholders in pursuit of sustainable success at a top international level. We aim to provide a method for sports organisations to assess and monitor the effectiveness of their support structure along with recommendations to strategically manage developmental and high performance environments”.
“As a coach and physical therapist, I am actively involved with athletes in an applied setting. I have competed on an international stage and continue to compete nationally in sports like triathlon. My research intends to encourage sports organisations to actively review how they ensure long term elite athlete development and maximise their resources. This we believe can help optimise the development of a greater number of high performance athletes competing in across a spectrum of sports”.
This research is under the supervision of Dr Aine MacNamara, for further information go to the Department of Physical Education & Sports Science, University of Limerick.
