UL MACSI Seminar

Date: 20th May 2011 to 20th May 2011
Time: 16:00 to 19:00
Duration: 3 hours
Location: A2-002 - Main Building

MACSI, Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites you to a seminar by Dr. Juan Montijano (Departamento de Matemàtica Aplicada, University of Zaragoza, Spain):

Title:  Projection techniques in Runge-Kutta methods
Abstract:  Geometric structures (first integrals, orthogonality, Lyapunov functions, symplecticity, etc) play an important role both in qualitative and quantitative studies of the flow of differential equations. Geometric integration is nowadays an active field of research that studies numerical integrators for which, in addition to the classical properties of accuracy and stability, the preservation of geometric properties of the flow is required. In this talk geometric numerical integrators based on Runge-Kutta methods combined with projection techniques are analysed. In particular, the search of a proper projection direction is analysed so that the phase error is minimized in some way, yet maintaining the order of the underlying Runge-Kutta scheme.

The seminar will take place on Friday 20th May, at 4pm, in A2-002.
