PRESENTATION TITLE: Pipelines, snRNPS and More – Experiences with Structural Genomics Methods on Non-SG Projects
ABSTRACT: Demands on output and functional significance of X-ray structures and functional studies are ever increasing. To achieve the required speed and quality also with larger and more difficult targets, many smaller academic groups focused on specific biological systems now engage in research strategies combining high-throughput (HTP) screening methods adopted from structural genomics initiatives with dedicated characterization efforts for each individual target. Some concepts, practical considerations and experiences implementing HTP methods for structural and functional studies on complexes and other challenging targets will be presented. Practical examples highlighting the need for flexible, target-adapted strategies will be discussed.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dr Christian Kambach is a lecturer at the University of Bayreuth’s Biochemistry Department in Germany. He has worked on functional and structural characterization of RNA-processing proteins for over twenty years. He joined the Department in 2011. Prior to Bayreuth University, he was a staff scientist at the Helmholtz centre for infection research and at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen, Switzerland where he led the Cloning & Expression Screening Platform. He has worked extensively on laboratory automation and high-throughput procedures for molecular biology and protein biochemistry protocols. Currently, he works on class III protein deacetylases.
REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED AT 13h45
