Surgery at the Graduate Entry Medical School is delighted to announce a visit to University of Limerick by Professor Jonathon Efron, Chief of the Ravitch Division of Surgery, at the Johns Hopkins hospital, Baltimore, USA.
Professor Efron is scheduled to visit University Hospital Limerick and University of Limerick campus from April 10th to 13th. During this visit he will deliver an invited lecture entitled “The Management of Rectal Cancer: Examination of the Past, Present, and Future”.
He will also conduct some informal sessions with students at which he will discuss and take questions in relation to medical and surgical training in America in general.
Professor Efron is world renowned as a colorectal surgeon, educationalist and surgical scientist. His interests include robotic colorectal surgery, cancer surgery, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders. He has mentored surgical trainees at all levels, published several hundred peer reviewed articles, book chapters and been the recipient of several national and international surgical awards. Having completed a surgical fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, he was appointed to staff there and subsequently at the Mayo Clinic. He is a member of 20 surgical societies and sits on the editorial board of several international surgical journals.
His visit to UL represents an important milestone in the development of collaborations and interactions between gastrointestinal surgery in University Hospitals and the Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins.
Professor Efron`s lecture will be held in the main lecture theatre in the Graduate Entry Medical School building, 7 pm, on April 11th. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be provided from 6 pm onwards.
