Are you a Mature Student? Would you be interested in mentoring an incoming mature student in September 2013? Put the V into your CV by volunteering for the Mature Student Peer Mentoring programme on campus at UL!
What’s involved?
You could hone your skills in communication, listening, using your initiative, problem solving and team work by linking up with several incoming mature students, befriending them and showing them how things are done at UL, where services are, how these work, and generally making a difference to their learning experience by being there to support them in their transition to third level.
How much time is involved?
You would commit to a five hour training programme in March 2013 delivered by the UL Student Counselling Service. In mid-August 2013 you’d be matched with your mentees, according to your course or at least according to your Faculty, and you would meet up five times in each semester for half an hour each time, so about fifteen hours in total.
What would you get out of it?
You would get the mentoring training; additionally the time that you give by volunteering can be counted towards the President’s Volunteer Awards, see www.ulpva.ie for more details on the awards.
