Teresa Rees is the newly appointed Director for Wales of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (www.lfhe.ac.uk ). She is also a Professor in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University (now part time), where she was Pro Vice Chancellor from 2004-10. Her research focuses on equalities, knowledge economies and women and science and is designed to inform evidence-based policy. She has advised European Union Member States as well as international companies on how to promote gender equality in organisations and their cultures. She is a long term expert adviser to the European Commission, advising on integrating equalities in universities through structural change, and integrating a gender dimension into research to improve its quality. She was a member of the National Equalities Panel commissioned by the UK Government to the Anatomy of Economic Inequality in the UK in 2010. Her current research, with Dr Alison Parken, is funded by a £1.3m grant from the ESF and focuses on equal pay.
A member of the board of Glamorgan University, Teresa is President of the South Wales branch of the Workers' Education Association. She chaired two commissions of inquiry for the Welsh Government on HE funding and student support. She is an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Learned Society for Wales. A former Equal Opportunities Commissioner, she received the 'Welsh Woman of the Year' award for 'outstanding contributions to women in Wales', and in 2002, was awarded a CBE for her work on equal opportunities and higher education.
