Richard Bruton T.D. education visit to South East Asia

The University of Limerick recently took part in an Enterprise Ireland education mission to Indonesia (17-18th Sept) and Malaysia (19th-21st Sept) which included the signing of a number of new bilateral agreements between UL and Malaysian and Indonesian universities

The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D.lead the five day mission and met with a number of key partners during the trip and took part in a number of strategic meetings, aimed at improving educational co-operation between Ireland, Malaysia and Indonesia.

In Indonesia the Minister witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UL and the Universitas Indonesia (UI), which is Indonesia’s oldest and most prestigious universities.  The Minister also addressed the university staff and students on the Irish Higher Education System. 

In Malaysia as part to the Ministers visit to the University of Malaya (UM) in Kuala Lumpur, he addressed the Asia Europe Institute on “Higher Education and Digital – Impact on the Economy, Business and Society”. As part of the event UL signed an MOU with UM on developing a joint summer school and staff and student mobility.

Over the course of the 3 day UL visit to Malaysia a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with University College Fairview and AIMST University and a Memorandum of Agreement signed with UniKL.

Increasing international cooperation is a key objective for the University of Limerick and by strengthening and building on our partnerships with institutions in these countries, we can ensure mutual benefit for both the institutions and students alike.
