Outgoing Erasmus Students
All UL students are invited to participate in the EU Erasmus programme. The University’s links with 275 partner institutions in 26 EU countries ensures that students can choose from a wide range of possibilities. Most humanities degrees include an integrated Erasmus exchange. Other degrees offer an Erasmus exchange in place of a Cooperative Education placement. A grant is paid for study within Europe. This grant does not affect any other grant funding, for example, a local County Council grant.
Consult the University of Limerick partner University map to find the University's EU and International partners.
Applying for Erasmus
- Attend an information session. Upcoming sessions are notified by email.
- Read the UL Erasmus Information Booklet, which may be downloaded from this site.
- Research the institutions linked to your academic degree programme. Universities usually offer websites in English for incoming students. The words to use for searching are "Erasmus", "international" and "incoming students". Reports from former Erasmus students and information on the universities are available from the International Education Division (IED).
- One semester of study equals registration for 5 modules. The mobility programme for students is wholly integrated into the existing curricula with fully recognised academic placements based on the ECTS credit system, i.e. 30 ECTS credits for one semester of study. Aademic credits are based on ECTS mechanisms using the awarding of 6 ECTS credits per module for the recognition of study placements in the host university. The credits are fully transferable between institutions with students accumulating 30 ECTS credits per semester. The ECTS credit system awards 6 credits per module. This means that the normal requirement for the Erasmus placement is 30 ECTS credits. The Erasmus Academic Coordinator for each degree programme should be consulted for specific advice with regard to module selection and individual degree credit requirements. The Learning Agreement is the official document for specification of modules, followed by the transcript of results, issued by the host University as certification of examination results.
- Complete the Erasmus application form and return it to IED along with a copy of your provisional learning agreement. The application form requires the student's signature and that of the Erasmus Academic Coordinator, to indicate approval of University selection.
- The Erasmus Administrator will nominate each student to the host institution. The next step is taken by the student, who applies (usually online) to the host University, submitting the application, printing it and sending it to the host University. The host institution’s application procedure for Erasmus students is described on the University website. Some applications require a transcript of results, a photocopy of the passport, a photograph and the signature of the Erasmus Coordinator.
- The IED will send an information pack to the student's home address once nomination to the host University has been made. This pack contains all relevant forms, an Erasmus Outgoing Student Manual and contact details of the host University.
Application deadlines:
Autumn Semester : 31 October
Spring Semester : 30 June
