RUSAL - UL Graduate Programme

2011/12 Graduate Programme 

RUSAL Alumna Division Limerick in cooperation with the University of Limerick is offering a unique opportunity to two Russian students. The new scholarship programme will offer students the chance to complete an Irish postgraduate qualification in addition to obtaining a minimum of one year’s work experience at the Limerick RUSAL plant.
 

Introduction
UC RUSAL, the world’s largest producer of aluminium, was established in March 2007 following the merger of three companies: RUSAL, SUAL and the alumina assets of Glencore (Switzerland). UC RUSAL's assets include bauxite and nepheline ore mines, alumina refineries, aluminium smelters, casthouse business for alloys production, aluminium foil mills and production of aluminium packaging materials as well as power-generating assets. The University of Limerick, Ireland is an independent, internationally focused university with over 11,000 students and 1,300 staff. UL offers 73 four-year undergraduate programmes and over 96 taught postgraduate programmes across four faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Education and Health Sciences, Science and Engineering and the Kemmy Business School. Graduate Programme
Two places will be offered for the academic year 2011/12. The successful candidates will complete the one-year Graduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering and following successful completion of the academic programme will be employed by RUSAL in Limerick for a further year. During the academic year the student may have the opportunity to work with RUSAL on specific projects.  Programme fees will be jointly paid by RUSAL and the University of Limerick. RUSAL will also provide a return ticket to Moscow and a monthly stipend for living expenses.

The Graduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering is a one-year full-time conversion programme.  It offers an exceptional opportunity for science and engineering graduates to obtain a professionally recognised qualification in Chemical Engineering. To apply
Applicants must be in their final year of a specialist engineering or science programme (e.g. Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Biochemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or Environmental, Materials) at a Russian university. They must show evidence of proficiency in chemistry and mathematics, particularly in differential and integral calculus and differential equations.

Applicants will be required to submit:

  • Certified English translations of their transcripts.
  • Letter of recommendation from a lecturer at their university.
  • A supporting statement outlining their interest in the programme.

A RUSAL representative will interview candidates in Moscow after the closing date. Applicants will need to have good English language skills (TOEFL IB 80 or IELTS 6.0 – 6.5). Applicants who do not meet the above language requirements may have the opportunity to attend an English Language programme at the University of Limerick before the academic year commences. 
Candidates will sign a contract with RUSAL to work for the company for approximately 3 years. RUSAL may transfer the employee to a second RUSAL site as determined by the company during this time.
