Programme Content
The programme will cater for two categories of students from the pool of candidates, category A and B.
Category A: Graduates from recognised undergraduate mathematics programmes which are theoretically based and have the specified entry requirements.
Category B: Graduates from recognised undergraduate mathematics programmes which are applications/applied in nature and have the specified entry requirements.
Successful candidates will be assigned to the appropriate mathematics sub-stream by the Course Director after consultation with the relevant mathematics representative on the course board.

Semester 2 (Spring) Curriculum Studies, Education Policy Issues, School-based Enquiry (Professional Practice), Mathematical Modelling and Applications (Category A students only), Pure Mathematics (Category B students only), Teaching Practice 2. |
Entry Requirements
Candidates shall normally be required to hold a Level 8 degree (NQAI) (Hons 2.2 or above) having graduated (or about to graduate) from an undergraduate degree programme that is recognised by the Teaching Council for the purposes of pursuing a teaching qualification in mathematics at post-primary level.
Candidates should note that in order to be recognised for the subject of Mathematics an applicant must have completed a degree listed on the "Autoqual's" list for the subject of Mathematics (see Teaching Council website) and they must also meet the criteria for the subject of Mathematics. It is recommended that graduates of Engineering and other degrees apply directly to the Teaching Council for recognition of their degree for teaching mathematics. Early application to the Teaching Council is advised.
Candidates will be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.
Garda clearance is also required for this programme.

- English language qualification is English is not your first language
- Certified English translation of your qualification(s)/certificate(s) where the originals are in a language other than English
- Evidence that your degree is recognised by the Teaching Council for the purpose of teaching mathematics at post-primary level.
- A copy of your birth certificate
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of either prior successful completion of a degree qualification taught through the medium of English or meet one of the criteria below (no longer than two years prior to application):
Acceptable English Language qualifications include the following:
Matriculation examinations from European countries where English is presented as a subject and an acceptable level is achieved
- Irish Leaving Certificate English –Ordinary Level Grade D or above
- TOEFL – 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), 80 (internet based)
- IELTS – Minimum score of 6.5* for Business, Arts, Humanities or Education programmes. Minimum score of 6.0* for Science, Engineering, Informatics or Electronics programmes *with no less than 6 in any one component.
- English Test for English and Academic Purposes (ETAPP) – Grade C1
- GCE ‘O’ level English Language/GCSE English Language – Grade C or above
- University of Cambridge ESOL –Certificate of Proficiency in English - Grade C / Certificate in Advanced English Grade A
- GCE Examination Boards – Oxford Delegacy of Local Examinations – Grade C / Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate – School Certificate Pass 1-6 / University of London Entrance and School Examinations Council – School Certificate Pass 1-6
