Acceptable English Language qualifications include the following:

DUOLINGO

UL has approved  the use of the Duolingo English Test (DET). The minimum requirement overall is a score of 120 with no less than 110 in any component on the Duolingo. An interview may be required in conjunction with this for certain programmes.

580 (paper based) or 90 (internet based)

Results in examinations other than those listed above may also be accepted as meeting our English language requirements.

Further to this, offer holders who do not meet the English language requirements above, can if they wish study pre-sessional English language classes at the UL Language Centre which is located on the UL Campus. English Language Requirement Waivers:

  • Applicants who complete 2+ years of Bachelor Degree study (or complete an entire Degree course/PG Diploma/Masters course) through English in a country where English is the official language of instruction meet the English language requirements for entry to UL.
  • Applicants who have lived and worked full-time in Ireland 2+ years.

Note:  

  • Applicants who completed 2+ years of Bachelor Degree study (or complete an entire Degree course) through English in a country where English is not the official language of instruction do not automatically meet the University’s English language requirements and in most cases the normal English language requirements apply (unless Faculty deem their current language level acceptable for entry to their programme).
