Introduction

Dr Elizabeth O’Mahony is a Senior lecturer of Paediatrics at the Graduate Entry Medical School, University of Limerick and a Paediatric Neurology Consultant with a special interest in Epilepsy at the University Hospital, Limerick.

Nov 2013 - Present: Completed Pilot Project

1. Project Title: Dance intervention (HIP HOP) to improve social integration, physical and mental health in children attending Limerick Early Intervention Services. Principal Investigator: Dr. Elizabeth O’Mahony. Other investigators: Aine O’Dea and Dr Siobhan Gallagher.  Currently registered with the GEMS with Professor Colum Dunne for an MD Research in this area

2. Project Title:  An exploration of the supervisory needs of medical students during a clinical attachment in paediatrics. Principal Investigator: Elizabeth O'Mahony Other Investigators: Paraic Curran, Josephine Boland

Promoting greater physical health and social inclusion: a whole school evaluation combined with physical   dance participation (adapted HIP HOP dance) can influence the physical activity patterns and promote positive physical and mental health in children attending a specialist school (St Gabriel’s Limerick) for children with complex disabilities.

Additional Information

Organiser/Committee member 2012/2013 of Limerick ‘Make a Move Festival’ which is an annual festival aimed to celebrate and develop the art forms within Hip Hop for young artists from both Limerick and all over Ireland. This festival has a particular emphasis on social inclusion; healthy living and an alternative lifestyle approach for young people and is the only one of its kind in the country.

Organised Hip Hop JAM in both 2013 and 2014; UL Sports Arena; Celebrating Limerick Hip Hop Intervention Project annually with performance and workshop for all kids involved in the project around the city and those children and with special needs.

Organised Hip Hop for Hope Charity Event in February 2014 held in the Marco Polo Restaurant: Fundraising   night to raise money for Downs Syndrome Limerick/Enable Ireland

Volunteer Medic at the Special Olympics which were held in Limerick in June 2014
