Effective Clinical Teaching Workshop Series

Target Audience: The course is open to all doctors who are currently working in the hospital network, irrespective of their level of seniority. Staff working at GEMS affiliated sites are also invited to participate via videoconference.

Dates: The workshop series will run on 6 consecutive Tuesday evenings from 24th January to 28th February (inclusive).

Time: 1730-1900 (light snacks served from 1700-1730)

Venue: GEMS Learning Resource Centre, University Hospital Limerick

Via Videoconference to GEMS Affiliated Sites/Hubs*

Accredited for 9 CPD Points

Cost: Free

 

Learning Objectives/Aims

This package of workshops will provide a basic but comprehensive foundation on aspects of clinical teaching. 

 

Elements of the workshops will include:

Modern principles and concepts in Clinical Teaching

Effective Small-Group Clinical Teaching

Effective Large-Group Clinical Teaching

Effective Bed-Side Clinical Teaching.

Effective Student Assessment and Self-Evaluation

Effective Feedback Provision.

 

Specifically it is expected that participants will achieve the following objectives:

Identify opportunities for teaching and enabling learning in everyday clinical practice

Apply some of the major modern medical education theories of learning & teaching to their own teaching practice

Utilise a wider range of teaching methods with students and trainees

Develop a reflective approach to teaching and learning which you can by utilise in their own continuing professional development
