The Centre for Physical Activity and Health Research, based at the University of Limerick, conducts multidisciplinary and translational research in physical activity and health. A core health challenge today is the maintenance of health in an aging population and the long term health risks of inactivity. The centre’s mission is to improve health, well-being and quality of life in individuals via the application of knowledge of physical activity, movement and health for optimum daily living, occupation and sport. The centre strives to focus UL’s existing multidisciplinary expertise around physical activity and health into a visible, influential and active centre with a strong national and international profile.

The Physical Activity and Health group has established a national lead in the study of movement and the role this has in rehabilitation, establishing health, preventing ill health, disease and disability and maximising human performance. The application of state of the art technologies to provide a wealth of information on all forms of movement and the application of these in both clinical treatments and behavioural change is a key focus of the group.
