CIVIL @ UL and SAUL Kings of the Castle

Thursday, 22nd March 2012

First Year Civil Engineering and Architecture visited King John's Castle on one of their regular study outings to interesting buildings and structures in the region. Prof. Tom Cosgrove who as a young engineer worked on the controversial steel building design explained how the design developed in collaboration with Murray O'Laoire Architects to take account of the amazing archeology discovered during the project and make it available permanently to visitors as well as allowing a two story visitor centre to be acommodated with minimum disturbance to the archaeology. Drawing tutor Declan Feeney guided students as they examined the structure, drew details and uncovered the logic behind the design.
