The Cooperative Education & Careers Division is organising a major on-campus Careers Fair on
Thursday 15 October 2009. The Fair will take place in the Sports Arena and will be open to students from 12.00pm. until 4.00pm. All sectors of employment will be represented so there should be something of interest to students of all disciplines.
What's it all about?
For those of you who have never attended a Careers Fair (or Recruitment Fair), this provides you with a unique opportunity to meet with a number of employers who plan to recruit graduates in the year 2010. Some of these employers will also have immediate vacancies to fill. Representatives of these companies will describe their organisation and typical vacancies with a view to encouraging you to apply when vacancies arise.
What companies will attend?
We will have more than 70 organisations participating in the Fair. This will include large and small companies, local, national and international companies, across all disciplines. What they have in common is an interest in meeting students who may be potential employees in the year 2010.
This year’s event will include some additional features such as a Volunteering zone, a Teaching zone, and a Postgraduate Study zone, in addition to the regular graduate employers.
The Careers Fair gives you the opportunity to
To make the best of this opportunity you will need to be prepared. Few employers will offer you a job on the spot but if you make the right impression this will be to your advantage at the interview stage. Here are some tips to help you on the day:

Not sure what to do after your PhD/Masters? Trying to decide whether to pursue an academic career or broaden your horizons? This is your opportunity to meet research graduates from UL and beyond who are willing to share their experiences of the post PhD job market and give you an insight into their respective sectors.
The UL Careers Service in conjunction with the Graduate School is hosting its annual Research Careers Seminar and Fair on Tuesday 19 May 2009. This event will comprise a panel of employers speaking on research careers within their organisations followed by a Research Careers Fair with some 30 organisations represented. This will be a networking event and opportunity to meet with a select number of employers who can give you an insight into possible career routes or information on how to prepare yourself for life after the PhD.
While not strictly a recruitment fair it is intended as an opportunity to network and find out how jobs are sourced and why types of research roles exist and how these roles are filled. Experience has shown that networking can be a very effective strategy at all levels and this is your opportunity to make useful contacts.
Attend the Seminar and listen to advice from employer representatives and network with selected organisations at exhibition stands in EGO10.
Please note that places are limited so early booking is essential. (Register)
What: Research Careers Seminar & Fair
Where: Jean Monnet Theatre & EGO 10
When: Tuesday 19 May 2009:
Wednesday 11 February 2009, EGO10, 12-3pm
The Cooperative Education & Careers Division, University of Limerick, is organising a Postgraduate Study Fair on Wednesday 11 February 2009. The fair will take place in EGO10 (the Examination Hall) in the main bulding. Opening hours will be from 12.00pm until 3.00pm. This event will be open to all students and graduates who are interested in finding out about postgraduate study opportunities in Ireland.
The Postgraduate Study Fair will be similar to the Careers Fair which was held in November. The objective is to provide students with relevant and up do date information on the range of postgraduate study opportunities available in Ireland. As one in four graduates continues on into some form of postgraduate study, this Fair will provide an ideal opportunity to research all the options. Specialist staff from all the Irish Universities, a number of the Institutes of Technology, Research Centres and other institutions will be available to answer questions on a range of issues including: selection procedures, application process, financial support, course content, employment prospects, etc. It will be a very informal atmosphere with plenty of opportunities for individual consultation with the experts.
We expect to have about 35 exhibition stands covering the main postgraduate study and research opportunities in Ireland. UL will be very well represented as each College will have an individual stand with information on research and taught postgraduate study options. The Admissions Office will also be represented.

The 2009 Spring Careers Fair will take place on Wednesday 04 March in EGO10. It will be open to students from 12.00 to 3.00.
Previous events have been very successful, attracting about 500 students, and we expect a similar turnout this year. This will be a colourful and interesting event, with a mix of organisations offering opportunities in various areas including: Sales; Marketing; Enterprise Development; Insurance; Performing Arts; Regional Development; International Development; Youth Work; Volunteering opportunities; and Summer Work in Ireland and Abroad. Approximately 30 organisations will be represented.
This event will provide an opportunity to chat informally to professionals from many career areas; it is designed to help students in their career choices and to encourage them to explore opportunities not normally represented at the more conventional Careers Fairs. It is an open event and students from all disciplines and all years of study are invited to attend. Please register in advance.
