Dr Stephen Kinsella, senior lecturer in Economics, KBS, University of Limerick​ & Sunday Business Post commentator named Economic Commentator, Business Analyst Of the Year 2016

Dr Stephen Kinsella, senior lecturer in Economics, KBS, University of Limerick​ & Sunday Business Post commentator, has been named Economic Commentator, Business Analyst Of the Year at the 10th UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards.

Eight of Ireland’s leading business journalists from The Irish Times, Sunday Business Post, UTV Ireland, RTÉ News, Fora.ie/TheJournal.ie and Irish Independent were honoured at the event on Monday.

Dr Kinsella won the award for his Sunday Business Post contributions: ‘Crisis, what Crisis?’; ‘The Dickensian Repercussions’; and ‘Time to party like it’s 2006’.

This year’s independent judging panel comprised of business, journalism, economic and academic leaders: Emer Gilvarry; Partner, Mason Hayes and Curran (Chair); Professor Ciarán Ó’hÓgartaigh, Dean UCD Business; Carolan Lennon, Managing Director, open eir; Miriam Hughes, CEO DDFH&B Communications Group; Jon Ihle, Head of Communications at Goodbody; Professor Donncha Kavanagh, UCD Smurfit School; Simon McKeever, CEO of Irish Exporters Association; Joan Mulvihill, CEO at Irish Internet Association; Christopher McKevitt, business journalist and broadcaster; and Rodney Rice, former RTE broadcaster.

“This year saw a record number of entries and, once again, the standard of writing and analysis was of an exceptional standard. The shortlist reflects a body of work which contributes to our collective understanding of important business, financial and economic issues that shape our lives,” said Professor Ó hÓgartaigh.

Carolan Lennon congratulated the journalists for this year’s awards, stating “the standard of journalism each year continues to impress the judging panel with its insight, analysis and writing that informs the public on key issues of the day”.
