Corporate MBA Apply Online Now!

INTRODUCTION

The University of Limerick MBA is a career enhancing post-experience qualification designed for students who want to engage in further study while continuing to develop their careers. There is an annual intake to the Corporate MBA programme, which is delivered on a block-release basis. The block release structure allows students to apply what they learn immediately in their own workplaces. A new development on the Corporate MBA programme is the introduction of optional streams in Aviation Management or Engineering Management.

Features of the Corporate MBA programme include:

Block Release Structure: The major focus for learning lies in the three-day intensive blocks delivered on-campus. Between blocks, individual study is supported by the formation of learning groups averaging four students.

Foundation
Workshop: Participants first come together and enrol at this four-day workshop, which enables students to adjust to the demands and opportunities of post-experience study. The learning process, including the formation of small groups, is also established on a firm footing. Content includes an introduction to the first Semester subjects as well as sessions on library facilities, communications and team building. The workshop incorporates the first teaching block.

Two Residential Summer Schools: Four-day summer schools in Years 1 and 2 facilitate the delivery of elective modules.

International Workshop: A one-week programme in September Year 2 which is designed to develop international perspectives and insights is an integral component of the overall development experience. Since 1997 the locations for the workshop have been Singapore/Malaysia, San Diego, USA, Cape Town, South Africa and China.

Dissertation: A significant project is begun in the summer period between Years 1 and 2, developed during the second year and completed for submission the autumn following conclusion of the taught element of the programme.

DELIVERY and LEARNING THEMES

One of the major attractions of the UL MBA is the innovative block release delivery model. Students are on campus for three day blocks (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). This allows them to focus on their programme for discrete periods. It also enables employers to plan around these dates in advance.

There are four three-day blocks in each semester, i.e. eight blocks in total per annum, as UL operates a two-semester system.

Learning Themes:
The Corporate MBA Programme focuses on five principal learning themes: Internationalisation, Managerial Vision and Competencies; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Strategic Thinking and Leadership.

Learning Principles
Students develop an advanced understanding of the main concepts and disciplines which are important for the tasks of management. They are equipped with a broad range of decision-making skills and an enhanced ability to cope with external changes emanating from the international business environment.

The programme balances the requirement for a core of subjects, followed by all students, with a degree of choice offered during a 4 day summer school in years 1 and 2 to reflect the special interest of participants and their employers. Apart from lectures and tutorials, case studies and project work – on both an individual and group basis – are significant learning approaches in the programme.

AVIATION MANAGEMENT STREAM

A new development on the Corporate MBA programme is the introduction of an optional stream in Aviation Management. This option allows students to follow a specialised stream of aviation modules as part of their Corporate MBA programme.

The fundamental objectives of the Aviation Management stream are:

To provide you with an understanding of the advanced concepts central to the wide ranging roles of management in modern business in general and the Aviation sector in particular.

To equip you with the analytical skills to enable you to assess the impact of the global socio, political, regulatory and economic environment on the Aviation industry.

To enable you to think and act strategically and develop your creativity and confidence to assume leadership responsibilities in this highly complex and changeable industry.

Learning Principles
