UL Students Showcase their Social Enterprise at the Enactus World Cup

The UL Enactus Team were part of a delegation of 70 Irish students who travelled to San José to represent the University of Limerick at the Enactus World Cup. The Enactus World Cup brings together an international network of student, academic and business leaders to promote and showcase student social enterprise initiatives. 
UL, the team had two notable outcomes at the World Cup, the first the Gemini, a handheld seed planter for farmers in South African countries was chosen as an Irish project for display at the World Project Fair and Grainne Gibson won a prize worth $2019 dollars to visit next year’s Enactus World Cup Finals.
During the week, the UL students learned about the importance and significance of social entrepreneurship and obtained insights from international colleges on how they have developed social enterprise initiatives, visited social enterprises and participated in networking events with Enterprise Ireland, and companies operating in the Silicon Valley with Irish connections, participated in cross cultural learning and social events and obtained mentoring from International business leaders from organisations Coca Cola, Univelever, PWC, AIG, Hallmark,
 
 
Overall, the UL Enactus Team had a very successful and eventful year with Enactus UL membership increasing to 45 students, The SparkEd project continued to excel nationally and was chosen as the overall National winner in the Citibank’s Pathway to Progress Competition securing €3,000 in seed funding to invest in the enterprise.  The UL team making it into the final round of four teams of the 2018 Enactus Ireland National Competition with the SparkEd project.  This project received very positive response by the judges to the Youth Leadership programme of SparkEd highlighting its novel approach to instilling a culture of volunteering to TY students whilst providing them with leadership and personal development skills.
Finally, Jack O' Connor, a team member added to the team’s success, as he was crowned overall winner of the Enactus Grassroots Pitching Competition.
