The Department of Work and Employment Studies - Name Change

The Department of Personnel and Employment Relations is now  Department of Work and Employment Studies.

We believe our new name reflects our discipline’s roots in industrial sociology, industrial relations, work health and safety and our ongoing study of the employee relationship. However, it also better reflects our discipline’s evolution and expansion, its growing focus on work and organisational psychology, increasing legal aspects and other continuing developments in labour economics, sociological and public policy as aspects of our field. In light of this, the existing name of the Department no longer encompasses the breath of teaching and research being undertaken by its members and the use of the term ‘personnel’ is no longer relevant to you, our stakeholders.

We thank you for your support in our journey thus far and welcome your continued involvement as our teaching and research work continues.  Please take a moment to connect with us on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13582195.

You might also want to note the date of the inaugural lecture of our Chair in Work and Employment, Professor Kevin Murphy, which takes place here in the Kemmy Business School at 6pm on Monday, the 30th of April. Kevin’s lecture will explore contemporary themes in work and employment and it is a great opportunity to hear more about our work here.
