KBS/Northern Trust Oustanding Student/Graduate Awards 2013

Forty-seven (47)) high achieving University of Limerick business and management students were honoured with a KBS/Northern Trust Outstanding Scholar Award at the Annual Kemmy Business School (KBS) 2013 awards ceremony.  This is the 9th year of the awards run by the KBS and recognises the most outstanding scholars in the School each year.

The students were presented their award Certificates by Dr Philip O’Regan, Dean of the KBS and Mr Clive Bellows, Ireland MD, Northern Trust at a ceremony which was held in the KBS on Wednesday, 25th April.   The Dean welcomed our principal sponsor, Northern Trust, whose ongoing commitment to these Awards exemplifies the close connections to business that the KBS has always fostered.  He welcomed Mr Clive Bellows, Northern Trust MD for Ireland, Ms Catherine Duffy, General Manager, Limerick and their colleagues Caroline O’Brien and Noel Gavin.

Dr Philip O’Regan said at the event “Our relationship with Northern Trust – and it extends beyond these awards – offers an outstanding example of the synergies that exist between universities and business and the manner in which both can contribute to Ireland’s growth agenda.  This awards ceremony recognises truly outstanding student achievements across 30 different programmes.  Here at the KBS we continue to lead programme development in Ireland and the attraction of our programmes has been most recently confirmed in the 2013 CAO figures.  At a time when applications for business programmes nationally remained static, KBS first preferences rose by a remarkable 20%.  Our capacity to respond quickly to national agendas is also shown in our new Masters programmes in Economic Analysis, Taxation and Risk and Insurance which were introduced last Autumn.  It is also reflected in our selection as Best Business School in Ireland at the recent InBusiness Editor’s Choice awards”.

The Louise Newman Memorial Prize was also presented at the ceremony by Mr Barry Sullivan, President, Insurance Institute of Limerick.  This year’s recipient is Fiona Brosnan from Co Kerry.   The prize was established in 2002 in honour of the late Louise Newman, a wonderful colleague who lectured in Insurance at the KBS from 1996 to 2001.  The Dean welcomed Louise’s husband John Mullin and her sister Clare McGann and family and thanked them for their continued support at the Award Ceremony.
