Information systems are a contemporary element in today’s financial markets. The developments of innovative financial products which are highly dependent on informatics have become an essential component of financial markets. The MSc in Finance & Information Systems aims to provide candidates with a comprehensive financial markets and Information systems education through an exposure to quantitative finance, tools and techniques for financial software development. This joint programme between the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, NUIG has been developed to meet on-going up-skilling and re-training needs of specific sectors of the regional economy (business, financial services, ICT etc.) while also building upon both Universities' complementary teaching strengths and areas of expertise.

  • This Masters programme will prepare graduates to pursue a variety of careers in the finance and Informatics profession such as financial analyst, risk analyst, systems specialist, risk manager, asset manager, credit analyst, software engineer, data analyst, database developer.

 ** Students must have completed Dynamic Asset Pricing Theory in semester one in order to be able to take Financial Econometrics in semester two.
 
 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants will possess a minimum 2:2 honours primary degree in a relevant discipline (for example, business, finance, economics, social science and mathematics). Applicants should have prior taught exposure to basic information systems or demonstrate competency in this area. An interview may form part of the application process. Applicants who cannot satisfy the minimum 2:2 honours primary degree requirement may be accepted on the basis of relevant professional experience.

In the case of international students, applicants must hold a qualification that is equivalent to an Irish or UK honours bachelor's degree (NQAI level 8). The degree must be in a discipline relevant to the postgraduate degree sought. Where candidates are non-native English language speakers, the candidate should meet the University’s English Language Requirements

 

DELIVERY

A variety of educational approaches will be employed in the delivery of the programme including interactive lectures and tutorials, guided reading, small group team work, seminars and workshops, e-learning and action learning through case studies and guest speakers from industry.

Approximately one quarter of the student workload will be taken up by formal contact hours. The remainder of the student workload should be divided between independent and private study and the preparation of projects and examinations
