INTRODUCTION

The BA in Management Practice programme is specifically designed to broaden and develop generic management competencies required by middle-level managers from a variety of disciplines working within public, private and voluntary sector organisations.
There is increasing consensus cross the management literature regarding key core competencies required by middle-managers to provide direction, facilitate change, utilise resources, and collaborate across functions; while concurrently achieving outstanding results by developing motivated effective individual team members and releasing discretionary effort and talent through delegation and empowerment.

 

Programme Objectives

The specific aims and objectives of the programme are to:
 

  • Provide learners with a fundamental understanding of management principles and practice and what it means to be an effective manager in a constantly changing national and international landscape

  • Enable learners to reflect upon their managerial experience by encouraging self-evaluation and enhancing self-awareness

  • Develop key personal and managerial skills to critically impact upon teamwork, motivation and performance including: problem solving, collaboration, communication, critical-thinking and presentation skills

  • Enable learners to develop their creativity, operational effectiveness and execute leadership responsibilities within the organisation.

  • Expand the analytical skills required to diagnose problems, formulate solutions in collaboration with others; make effective decisions to address contemporary management problems.

  • Provide learners with an understanding of the issues associated with managing people, processes and operational aspects of the business.

  • Support and facilitate managerial effectiveness to aid the transfer of learning to achieve a return on investment for the sponsoring organisation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

This programme specifically seeks to recruit middle-level managers from a variety of disciplines working with public, private and voluntary sector organisations.

The programme is open to applicants who hold a Level 7 (NFQ), ECTS 60 credits award (Minimum 2.2) in Management or Business Studies or equivalent.

DELIVERY


The BA in Management Practice is a two year programme. Learners will attend interactive workshops for 12 days per semester (24 contact hours per module). These contact hours will be critically underpinned and supported with self-directed and personal study hours.
