Walter Stanley

Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs, Faculty of Science and Engineering and Lecturer in Mechanics of Solids, Plastics/Composites and Aircraft Design

Walter has over twenty years’ experience specifically in the area of composite materials manufacture and mechanical testing. His research areas are in : Manufacturing processes for novel thermoplastic composites including Radio Frequency, manufacturing processes for thermosetting composites including Vacuum infusion & RTM; Mechanical characterisation of engineering materials including embedded strain gauging; Recycling of polymers, fibres and composites; Sustainability, demisability of composites utilising natural and/or sustainable materials; Joining technologies for manufacturing composite structures.

Walter has secured €2.45 million research funding in the area of composite materials manufacture and characterisation. He has been involved in several Irish State and industry funded projects as Principal Investigator (PI) related to novel composite materials development and manufacture, and also as a PI in a European Space Agency project related to demisable composite materials.
