Eamonn de Barra

Eamonn is a materials scientist with a track record in the development and commercialisation of a range of medical devices for dental and orthopaedic applications. While in the private sector he previously developed and commercialised a complete product range of silicone dental impression materials; developed, manufactured, and marketed 6 novel precious metal alloys for prosthodontic applications. He has collaborated with several multinational medical device manufacturers on the development of a range of bioactive cement products  for dental, ENT, neurosurgical and orthopaedic applications, including the multi award winning development of DirectInject™ the world’s first injectable hydroxyapatite cement for closure of neurosurgical defects https://cmf.stryker.com/products/directinject . His current research interest is focussed on commercial orthopaedic and dental materials development, leading a range of commercially, state and European sponsored research projects developing new implantable materials with  properties tailored to optimise in-vitro and in-vivo performance, as well as clinically defined handling and performance requirements. Dr de barra has served as a council member for the European Ceramics Research Council (ECerS) since 2016 https://ecers.org/en/about-us/council-members.html and was appointed visiting professor at LMCPA Univeriste Polytechnique Hauts de France in 2018 and 2019.
