Workshop: Reflection as Learning and Assessment

Workshop: Reflection as Learning and Assessment

Norah Burns of the School of Law has secured funding from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education to host a half day seminar and workshop on ‘Reflection as Learning and Assessment’ on Thursday the 1st of June. The event will take place in the Wood Room/Armitage Room Plassey House starting at 9.30 am.

The first part of the morning will focus on a study Norah carried out with an undergraduate Child Law class on their experience of reflective teaching methods used in the module. The tutor for the Child Law module and an undergraduate and graduate student from the class will give short presentations on how they experienced reflective teaching practices. The second part of the morning will be led by Professor Jennifer Moon, the leading international expert on reflective teaching and learning practices. Professor Moon will run a participative workshop on reflective teaching and learning methods.

While the first part of the morning will focus on reflective teaching and assessment methods utilised in a law class, the empirical data gathered from student surveys and the advantages/challenges that will be discussed could be applied to any class irrespective of discipline. The workshop led by Professor Moon is not discipline specific.
