Sociology Public Event: A Conversation with Julien Mercille

The Department of Sociology is delighted that Dr. Julien Mercille (UCD) will discuss his latest book “The Political Economy and Media Coverage of the European Economic Crisis: The Case of Ireland” (2014) on Wednesday 12th November at 3pm in the Millstream Common Room.

Dr. Mercille is a lecturer in UCD’s school of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy. His most recent research focuses on critical political economy and the international economic crisis. He has published extensively on this subject in peer-reviewed journals and in his forthcoming book on “Neoliberalism under Austerity” (2015). The conversation will centre on his current analysis of the role of the media in presenting government policies enacted in response to the economic crisis since 2008. Dr. Mercille is also a regular media analyst and commentator on RTE and in the Irish and international press. 
The conversation will be followed by a seminar in the Mechanic’s Institute, Hartstonge St, at 7pm.
