Law seminar: The Emerging Gig Economy: Is there an APP for that?

The School of law is delighted to announce a seminar titled ‘The Emerging Gig Economy: Is there an APP for that?’ on Friday February 17th, 9.30 to 1pm in the Pavilion, University of Limerick.

The seminar will examine the issues raised by the growing trend of hiring workers through internet based Applications for single events or ‘gigs’. While Uber led the way in developing this form of work organisation through its system for matching available drivers with customers, many organisations now see this as the most efficient method of controlling their labour costs. The speed with which this emerging trend has developed has far outpaced the development of legal protections for the workers involved. Therefore, this seminar will highlight some of the problems encountered by ‘gig’ workers while discussing potential solutions to those problems.

All are welcome to attend.
