Tuesday October 7 marked the 90th anniversary of Ireland-U.S. diplomatic relations. Prof. Timothy A. Smiddy presented his credentials as Ambassador (Minister Plenipotentiary) of the Irish Free State to President Coolidge on that date in 1924.

Professor Bernadette Whelan gave a paper 'Recognising the Irish Free State: The appointment of Timothy Smiddy as the first Irish Free State minister to the United States' at the Seminar 'A Unique Relationship': Celebrating NinetyYears of Ireland - United States Relations / A seminar on the First Decades of Irish Diplomacy in America' held in Washington DC.
