Tá Roinn na Staire in Ollscoil Luimnigh tiomanta le barr feabhais a bhaint amach i múineadh agus i dtaighde na Staire.
Welcome to Ireland's youngest history department. We were established in 2002 and since then we have been welcoming students through our doors. We are a young and vibrant department researching and teaching a diverse range of historical topics, with a particular concentration in Irish, European and International history, encompassing North America, the Middle East and Australia. The study of the past provides a foundation for the arts, humanities and social sciences. It trains the mind and opens the imagination of its students. Most importantly studying the past opens up our imagination to who we are individually and collectively, whether in the family, community, the nation or as cosmopolitans. Our department has produced archivists, librarians, lawyers, civil servants, successful businesspeople, school teachers, military officers, writers, journalists and other professionals. Delivering excellence in teaching at all levels requires a deep and firm knowledge of the subject rooted in original research. All members of the Department are passionate researchers and acknowledged leaders in their respective fields of study, as shown by our publications. We have been recognised for the quality and range of our work by receiving the Public Sector Award for Education and Training in 2016, among other honours.
